In Jan’s literacy class, everyone worked in teams to make videos using lyrics from different songs. My worked with two other friends and our songs were “Nothing’s Gonna Change My Love for You”, “Try Everything” and “Crarity”. We made a story about a triangle love. Please enjoy the story below.
This year, I spent two terms of Wednesday Expertise working on Google Science Fair. It is a global competition, which we choose a science concept and conduct experiments for it. I chose to work with a partner, Vattey to create biodegradable styrofoam because it is one of the big problem that cause pollution. The deadline of submitting this competition is midnight (westcoast time) on the 17th of May. I submitted it at about 5:30 pm, Cambodia time. Click here to see my team submission, which contain more information about my project!
I was teamed up with my partner to create a book about densiy. (If you want to know about my science book click here). In order to write that story, we did a lot research. Our science teacher gave an assignment for us to write a short summarise of what the main idea of book is. Below is the paragraph of the summarise.
One of the big projects at Liger for 2015 was creating science books. Everyone was put into pairs and chose a topic about science. My partner and I collaborate to create a book about density, which the book title is “Temperature Affects Density”.
There were a lot processes for creating this book. First, we needed to research about our topic. Next, we started writing the book in English and editing came after that. Then, we translating the book into Khmer. After the translation was finished, our Khmer learning facilitators edited it. Last but not least, we needed to work on the art and putting the writings into Bookwright.
One of a literacy program that is include in After School Extension is Advanced Reading. I was one of the advanced reader at Liger since the second year. The reason this is an extension because we don’t have enough time to read during literacy class. Currently, I am reading a book called “Unbroken”. It is about a man named Louie. It talks about how he survive on an ocean for 27 days.
My English has improved a lot from year one. In the notebook, I saw a project called N.V.A Story. In the writing, I found some mistakes that I would not make now like superlative adjective mistakes and possessive mistakes. Also, my reading level was around I and K, but now my reading level is around V and W. My comprehension checks for those books were short in year one and in year three, my comprehension checks were about three times longer. I think it is because the questions are harder. I also found one easy spelling mistake: I spelled “farther” and I meant “father”. In one comprehension check, I saw a sentence that’s missing a word. The sentence was “My father go to the that he work.” and I meant “My father went to the place that he worked”. I found one redundancy mistake: message it means idea. Verb tense mistakes were shown a lot in my notebook, examples: I was rang to him everyday, the picture look real. In my year one notebook, my handwriting was neat but by the time I get to the middle of the book my handwriting was messy.
In Khmer class this year, we have four different classes. There are listening, speaking, reading and writing. One of the project that I had was debate.
The topic for the debate was “Using the Internet is Bad for Children” and I was on the pro team. My team had five main idea that support the topic. There are children’s safety, illness (mental and physical), their attention for studying, changing there behavior and the open of internet. There were four members in my team and I was the introductor. There was no winner in this debate. Our teacher just gave us comments on what we have done.
